May 2008 Winner's Tip
Congratulations Cindy F., TX!
We have been planting our own garden in the backyard for a few years. It is great to just go outside and choose your menu. It is also a fun and educational experience for the kids. It is helping the planet by not buying produce that is shipped from who really knows where and it cuts back on gas $$$$$ for your own car.

My green tip is to help others go green. For gifts I've been giving energy efficient light bulbs, natural cleaning products and those great bags you take to the grocery store so you don't have to answer the question, "paper or plastic?"

My biggest green tip is to stuff folded-up canvas shopping bags by every door, in my car, and near my shoes so that I remember to use them when I shop! If I keep several of them nearby, I am more apt to remember to grab them!

Congratulations Sally S., WI !
My green tip is that I always reuse paper. Especially in the age of computers. I use the backs of paper for phone messages, and I keep a recycle box at my office and recommend to people to use from that box for any scratch paper or notes that they need. They have dubbed me the official Tree Hugger in our office, but they use my suggestions and we've made it fun!
January 2009 Winner's Tip
Congratulations Paula F., IL !
I have my three different containers for each of my recycles, plastic, aluminum cans, and paper close by. This way I am more inclined to toss them in the recycles than in the trash.

When you are finished with those old jeans cut them into 2 inch wide strips and sew end to end. You can braid them and sew in a circle for place mats, rugs or chair covers and sell them to raise money for environmental projects.
