Hello from the Oregon Coast!
Becoming a mother for the first time at age 40 really changed my perspective on life. My priority became my daughter and work became a necessary interruption. I am fortunate because I live a fairly frugal life and my needs are modest.
We are a virtual public school family with Connections Academy. Now that grandma passed away in August 2011 from Alzheimer's Disease, my time is now freed for more online activities.
That's where this website enters the picture. By creating a virtual secondhand store I plan to replace my income and do some community and environmental service while I'm at it.
Why the name TreeHuggerz?
Thinking about it, I guess my website name got its start in 2001. One evening my boyfriend and I were cruising the internet together. He told me about an idea for planting trees and that he'd like to do it using a website to advertise. That idea sounded good so we started brainstorming ideas for names.
TreeHugger was a natural but we wanted to add a bit of whimsy, that's when the z was added to the end. I went so far as to purchase a domain but the business never got started. The funny part is that I've hung onto the domain all this time, just waiting for a purpose.
When my daughter was born (2002) one of my uncles made the comment that her name reminded him of the 1960's hippie culture.
I thought that was interesting but it kinda nagged at me. It made me examine my lifestyle, was I a modern day hippie?
Fast-foward to April 2004 when instead of planting trees, I started working on a business that would promote frugal living while caring for the environment.
